Olsen Europe, the leading retailer of ladies' clothing, has teamed up with Plan International to support textile projects which help women all over the world.
An example of this initiative in action would be their collaboration with artisans in India to design and manufacture its 2010 Double Happiness Collection. The annu women's coats online al spring collection consists of four pieces of clothing, from ladies' tunics to ladies' tops, and for accessories, and and all of the items were designed and hand-embroidered by members of Sadhna, a handicraft enterprise in India that gives women living in rural slums an opportunity to earn a living while working from home. The more than 625 women are all part owners of the cooperative that provides them with economic and social stability, as well as education and a self esteem boost. It also allows them to show off their impressive skills in the arena of textiles.
The partnership between Olsen and Sadhna, which also includes international development agency Plan Canada, is a friendly and mutually beneficial exchange of skills. Members of Olsen's team to donate industry expertise in design, marketing, logistics and exports to Sadhna. And the Sadhna women design and create the women's clothing. Olsen pays Sadhna a flat fee for the project and gives them a portion of the proceeds from sales.
